DLNA certification reveals a more powerful Samsung Galaxy S4 in the making

DLNA certification is not something that we generally scour through, but almost all new phones which can fall in line with the sharing standard have to get one. So every now and then there is a juicy nugget that pops out of the DLNA certification website.

Take the Galaxy S4, for example. Samsung has already launched the S4 in various markets with two different SoCs – one is Samsung’s very own Exynos 5 Octa and the other is Snapdragon 600. However, the DLNA certification for a new version of the flagship, discovered by RBMen, reveals that Samsung is about to announce a Snapdragon 800-powered Galaxy S4.

The Galaxy S4 will soon get a more powerful twin

The certificates show Samsung models SHV-E330K and SHV-E330L, which are versions of the Galaxy S4 for South Korean carriers. The listing mentions the MSM8974 chip, which is the official internal name for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. This means the Snapdragon 800-powered S4 will likely be released in Samsung’s home country first.

Snapdragon 800 is an SoC that truly ups the ante when it comes to smartphone processors. It features a quad-core CPU with a clock speed of up to 2.2GHz per Krait core. In addition, it has an integrated 3G/4G LTE modem that can deliver download speeds of up to 150Mbps, USB 3.0 connectivity and an Adreno 330 GPU that’s said to deliver up to a 50 percent increase in graphics performance compared to its predecessor.
