Demolition company tears down wrong house, blames Google Maps

A demolition company in Rowlett, Texas accidentally demolished the wrong house and pushed the blame on Google Maps. The house, belonging to Lindsay Diaz, was damaged in a recent hurricane and had just been certified for repair, reports KERA News.The demolition company refused to shoulder the blame for wrecking the house, which was on another street entirely. They pointed out that the house was incorrectly marked on Google Maps, a fact that was confirmed by a Google spokesperson, and insisted that they weren’t responsible.As The Verge points out, it’s very brash for anyone to even consider blaming Google Maps for an error like this, especially when even Google claims that it’s mapping service isn’t a 100-percent reliable. Google told CNN Money, “Google Maps did indeed show incorrect information for the houses in question,” adding that the issue was fixed the moment it was brought to their attention.The demolition company on the other hand refused to even apologize and apparently told Diaz that insurance companies would be handling the matter.
