Dead Space not scrapped, confirms EA

Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that Dead Space, the game series which began in 2008, is not cancelled. This follows an early report by Eurogamer that claimed that the series was scrapped following a poor sales performance of Dead Space 3, which was released earlier this year.

However, Patrick Söderlund, CEO, EA Games, confirmed in an interview that the series was not scrapped. He said, “I wouldn't say its (Dead Space franchise) cancelled at all. Dead Space remains a brand that is close to Electronic Arts' heart. It's been a great brand for us done by a very passionate team.” He added that, for now, the team was not working on the fourth installment of the game and instead was concentrating on something new. When asked if the team was working on a Dead Space game today, Söderlund confirmed, "No they're not. They're working on something else very exciting.”

Isaac Clarke fights the alien

Dead space is a third-person shooter game where you play as Isaac Clarke, who is a ship systems engineer. Clarke is tasked with finding his way out of a starship invaded by aliens, who are not exactly friendly. Played from an over-the-shoulder third-person perspective, the game revolves around Clarke's struggle to get through the ship. Though Dead Space 3 saw some changes in its gameplay and topped the sales chart in many countries, EA, in a statement, said that the franchise needed to sell more than five million copies to remain viable – something which it couldn’t achieve.

Uncertainty looms over the possibility of another addition to this game as Söderlund added, "Will there be another Dead Space game? Who knows? Have we killed it? No, of course not. But right now the team is focused on something else that you and other gamers will be very happy with."
