Computex: ASUS reveals Intel 64-bit, quad-core Fonepad 8 along with MeMO Pad 7, MeMO Pad 8

With Computex 2014 set to officially begin tomorrow, companies some companies have already started the proceeding with their pre-Computex announcements. ASUS released a whole range of products today for the working professionals and home users looking at content consumption. ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih announced the new Fonepad and MeMO Pad series of tablets in Taipei, Taiwan.

The other tablets announced today were the MeMO Pad 7 and MeMO Pad 8.  The MeMO Pad 7 (ME176C) is a 7-inch Android tablet powered by a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z3745 which is clocked at 1.86GHz. It has a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. The cameras come with PixelMaster technology which allows features such as Time Rewind Mode, Selfie Mode and Always in Focus modes. MeMO Pad 7 supports Miracast technology which allows it to stream HD videos to a compatible TV or other displays. The aptX CSR Bluetooth technology enables streaming of audio to headphones and other supported devices.

MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL) is an 8-inch Android tablet supporting LTE and WiFi 8082.11ac enabling speedy downloads. The MeMO Pad 8 is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 having a clock speed of 2.3GHz. MeMO Pad 8 comes with a 1920x1200 pixel resolution and has an IPS panel for improved display. The display is covered by Corning's Gorilla Glass 3. The MeMO Pad 8 weighs only 299 grams and is only 7.45mm thick.

Fonepad 8 (FE380CG), as the name suggests, is an 8-inch Android tablet which is powered by the 64-bit Intel Atom Z3560, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. It is extremely thin, measuring just 5.06mm on the sides and boasts of a 1280x800 pixel IPS display. ASUS claims that the Fonepad 8's 72.2 per cent screen-to-body ratio is the largest viewing area on any 8-inch tablet on the market. The Fonepad 8 comes with a built-in 3G connectivity and dual-SIM phone functionality.

All the tablets mentioned above, Fonepad 8, MeMO Pad 7 and MeMO Pad 8, come with ASUS's proprietary ZenUI atop Android 4.4 KitKat. ASUS claims that ZenUI features around 1000 software enhancements. Shih also showcased some CPU and GPU benchmarks pitting the quad-core Intel Atoms against competing octa-core chips from ARM. The Intel chip shows around 2X to 7X increase in ASUS' internal benchmark tests. This can only be confirmed after we actually put these tablets through their tests.

Pricing and availability has not yet been announced for any of the new tablets.
