Coming soon: Nokia Sirius, a 10.1-inch Windows RT tablet

Rumours about the Windows-based Nokia tablet have been making rounds since  last year. It was also believed that the company had plans to showcase the Windows RT tablet at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year, but that didn't actually happen. According to a report by TheVerge, sources familiar with Nokia have confirmed that the company may soon launch the 10.1-inch tablet, which has been codenamed Sirius. We’ve seen the leaked images last week, and the design of the tablet closely resembles Nokia’s Lumia Phone devices.

Reportedly, the Nokia tablet is likely to be slimmer and lighter than the latest iPad. It is expected to weigh just over a pound. Nokia plans to add a dash of colour to the Sirius (we’ve seen the company do that with its previous smartphones). On the specs front, it is believed to feature a 6 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. The report claims that the display featuring 1920 x 1080 pixels of resolution has been enhanced for comfortable reading even in bright outdoor conditions. One can expect a microSD card slot with support for up to 64GB of storage, micro HDMI connector and microUSB port.

The anonymous sources have revealed that the Sirius will be powered by Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor along with 2GB of RAM. The company also plans on offering up to 10 hours of battery life for prolonged usage even with LTE functionality enabled.

Nokia could include an optional keyboard with built-in battery, to further boost the battery life. Nokia is likely to unveil the Sirius on September 26. Rumour has it that the company plans to price the Sirius at a starting price of $499, which is similar to the price of the current iPad.
