Having success with the launch of its English app (3,000 downloads in the first 3 weeks of its launch), Chandamama, an Indian children's magazine, has launched its iPhone app in nine regional languages. The app is a blend of the magazine's content, including Indian mythological stories, Vikram and Vetala stories, contemporary information on science as well as the "It's around us" section. It also has read along stories with some extra surprises, and challenging and creative activities. The languages the app is available in are: Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malyalam, Bengali, Gujarati and Sanskrit.Screenshots of the Chandamama app on the iPhone

In addition to the iPhone app, Chandamama plans to launch an Android app as well. Chandamama India Limited is a Geodesic company and proclaims it is India's oldest Children's magazine. The Chandamama app is available for free from the iOS App Store for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. The app requires iOS 4.0 or later. It is targeted at children aged 10-14 and contains in app purchases of its magazines of $0.99 each (Rs. 44 approx). This means, the way the languages are supported is, you buy the magazine in the language of your choice. The primary language that the app is in is still English.
