CES 2012: Tobii Gaze lets users control Windows 8 with their eyes

The future seems to be here, already. Tobii Gaze lets users control Windows 8 with just their eyes. Gizmodo was present at the CES demonstration and they got some footage of the technology in action. They’re pretty excited about how well it’s able to detect exactly what you’re looking at. The technology works using a small sensor, which in the case of this demonstration was attached to the top of the notebook. The system, like any other sensor recognition-based system requires to be calibrated before using it. It appears the accuracy and the speed at which Tobii detects movements is pretty impressive. The swipe gestures designed for Windows 8 are also accessible using one's eyes.

A whole new way of interacting with your PC

The demonstration also included games, similar to Asteroids, which seems to be impressive as well. With such performance and features, the new technology might be as impressive as touchscreens were, a long time back. If the company is able to release affordable products for the masses, it could change the way we communicate with our notebooks and PCs. Add the same kind of performance to phones and tablets, and it’ll change the game, entirely.

There's no information on how much the Tobii Gaze costs and when it will be available. There are bound to be a few bugs and glitches that need to be fixed, before it goes mainstream as well.
