CDProjekt Red releases The Witcher 2 modding tools for free

Developer of the Witcher series of games – CD Projekt Red – has released toolkit for The Witcher 2 so that modders can make mods for the game. Much like any other game’s toolkit, it has been released for free. The toolkit is available on the company’s official website. CDProjekt has also released a trailer for the toolkit:

Players can use the tools to create whatever mods they would like for the game. The toolkit is powerful enough to allow players to even create a completely new RPG from scratch. It includes tools to build terrain, invent quests, design characters and create non-linear storylines.

"For CD Projekt RED, RPGs are all about telling amazing stories. We want to give players the power to tell the same kind of non-linear, branching stories that made The Witcher games so popular," CD Projekt RED boss Adam Badowski said. “Our fans have helped us for years to make our games the best they can be, and REDkit is part of embracing our community as a partner in game development.”

The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings is the sequel to The Witcher, set in universe of The Witcher series of novels. Released on May 17, 2011, it brought along a brand new game engine with shinier graphics and new game mechanics. Its plot starts with an assassination of a king, which is then blamed on the protagonist Geralt of Rivia. The game follows the story of Geralt as he tries to clear his name, and find and bring the real Kingslayer to justice.

He encounters many former comrades on his journey, but soon enough, he starts to suspect that all is not as it seems, as he is once again drawn into the political schemings, where everyone seems to be working their own angle. The series handles fantasy in a more dark and realistic way, more like Game of Thrones than Lord of the Rings.
