BlackBerry teases upcoming changes in BlackBerry 10.2 update

Even though BlackBerry 10.1 has not started rolling out to all compatible devices yet, BlackBerry has revealed details about what’s coming in the next update to the OS. Interestingly, this is the first time we have seen the company use BBM Channel to update the general public about forthcoming development.

CrackBerry reports that BlackBerry Product Manager Michael Clewley used his BBM Channel (PIN C00014277) to share some details about what to expect in the next version of BlackBerry 10. Clewley confirmed that with the update, users will be able to set a time to remember items. In additions, BlackBerry is bolstering its emoticon sets with the inclusion of Standard Unicode Emojis. Users will also be able to set multiple alarms. Level 1 Notifications is expected to be back on the platform, so users can easily add a special notification for any email address or keyword and also set up a custom alert for these notifications.

In addition, Clewley also mentioned that these changes will be available to developers (and brave users) when the BlackBerry 10.2 beta SDK releases in June. He added that the 10.2 OS update will be hitting devices within the calendar year. BlackBerry 10.2 will be available for the Z10, Q10 and Q5 smartphones as well as the Playbook tablet.

Earlier this month, we got a first glimpse of BlackBerry 10.1, which added a slew of features to the new platform. Among the major updates were HDR option for taking stills, improvements in BlackBerry World app storefront and the ability to fully unlock the phone by hitting the power button on the lock screen.
