The 399$ price tag in the US includes the profit margin and the tax paid to the US govt.The justification provided by the Sony head is not very believable.

The 399$ price minus the US tax minus the profit margin is the base cost.
That base cost plus import duties plus VAT would still be under Rs 30,000.
