Apple will add photo sharing features to iCloud

It seems photo sharing is on everybody's mind these days, from Facebook's acquisition of Instagram, to its mobile app photo improvement, to even Google+ improving its mobile app for photos. While Apple doesn't have its own social network to improve photo sharing on, sources close to the matter say that iCloud will receive an update to include photo-sharing features. According to the Wall Street Journal, the new features might be announced at Apple's WWDC event, which will be held on the 11th of June. The features will allow iCloud users to share photo galleries with each other as well as comment on each others' photos. Currently, the way iCloud works with photos is through Photo Stream, where users can sync their photos across their devices, but not really share the photos with their iCloud buddies.

iCloud will update and add photo sharing

Before iCloud, Apple had MobileMe, however, the Cupertino-based company is planning on shutting down MobileMe in the next few weeks. MobileMe had a Gallery feature through which users could upload and store entire photo galleries. This, of course, was for the purpose of backing up photos, not sharing them, as is imminent with the update to iCloud. Other updates that are expected in iCloud are syncing personal videos, as well as accessing the Apple programs, 'Notes' and 'Reminders' through iCloud.com. Sources close to the matter say that these features are due to come out with iOS 6, which is what is likely to be displayed at WWDC in June.

Other changes that iOS 6 will bring is the dropping of Google Maps. Apple hasn't confirmed this information, but the report says that Apple will be providing its own Maps service with Apple's own backends for users of iOS 6. It says that the new Maps service will look and function a lot as Google Maps on the iPhone currently does, however the experience will be cleaner and more reliable. Apple will, of course, also change the logo that signifies the Maps application on the iDevice's homescreen to feature a view of their 1 Infinite Loop campus albeit with a different colour scheme.
