Apple to ditch Microsoft Bing for Google as the default search engine for Siri and Spotlight web results

Representational Image[/caption]In a report by TechCrunch, consistency has been the problem for Apple with Bing, forcing them to opt for Google as the default search engine. The switch will also reflect on the iOS search bar as well as Spotlight. Google has already been the default search provider for Safari on iOS and Mac, courtesy of a bill worth billions of dollars to both giants.Image search results will, however, continue to be generated by Bing, said the report. This is due to the image search prowess that Bing has over Google. Google search results will hence include on web links and video searches. The rollout is already supposed to have begun and is expected to be complete within a day.In a statement issued by Apple to TechCrunch, it stated, "Switching to Google as the web search provider for Siri, Search within iOS and Spotlight on Mac will allow these services to have a consistent web search experience with the default in Safari. We have strong relationships with Google and Microsoft and remain committed to delivering the best user experience possible.”Microsoft also responded to the announcement in a statement which read, "We value our relationship with Apple and look forward to continuing to partner with them in many ways, including on Bing Image Search in Siri, to provide the best experience possible for our customers."
