Apple has released a minor update – iOS 6.0.2 – to fix the Wi-Fi issue that seems to be affecting devices. The Wi-Fi issue has been a long standing one and seems to be affecting the newest iOS devices, the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini.
The Wi-Fi issue was attempted to be fixed with iOS 6.0.1 in early November, but it looks like the problem was still plaguing users, prompting Apple to release this minor update. This update has no attached frills and is clearly intended to fix the niggling Wi-Fi issue only. Though the update has not specifically mentioned which issues it intends to target in particular, complaints about devices have ranged from poor reception to no connectivity at all on Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi issues fixed!
Apple released the iOS 6.0.1 update in early November, coinciding with the Indian release of iPhone 5. The loaded update brought along with it bug fixes to prevent the iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air, horizontal lines displayed across the keyboard and a non-responsive camera flash. It was also supposed to have improved the reliability of iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation) when connected to encrypted WPA2 Wi-Fi networks, something that it failed to do to a certain extent. Introducing iOS 6 was the other major announcement that Apple had made while launching its newest iPhone 5. The OS was made available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Apple had dropped iOS 6 support for the first generation iPad.

According to a report by Apple Insider, iOS 6.1 beta was made available for the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS; iPads of the second, third and fourth generations; and iPod touch devices of the fifth and fourth generations. The report said that the beta versions of iOS 6.1, compatible with the iPad mini and the new fourth-generation iPad, were not to be offered on Apple's developer website.
The website also mentioned that the only major new addition to iOS 6.1 was to be 'Map Kit Searches' as part of the 'Map Kit' framework. The feature lets developers search for map-based addresses and points of interest. A fourth beta of iOS 6.1 was released to developers on December 17. The newest beta was supposed to contain ‘bug fixes and improvements'. Some new features like new boarding pass behaviour in Apple's Passbook, minor tweaks to Safari, a back-end change to the mapping software and music playback controls from the locked screen have been introduced over the betas.
The iOS 6.0.2 update can be procured for your iPhone 5 or iPad mini either by connecting your device to a PC and downloading the update by iTunes or downloading it and installing it OTA. The update is 51.4MB.
