Apple Campus 2: A whole new world, coming to life at a steady pace

The most ambitious project that Steve Jobs initiated towards the later part of his life has got to be the new Apple Campus 2. To say that it’s different, disruptive and to a great deal eccentric is to state the obvious. In a presentation to the Cupertino council on 7 June, 2011, Jobs expresses the absolute need to move to a new campus, because the existing offices are running out of space. What stands out in the presentation is the closeness that Steve Jobs (and effectively Apple) feels towards Cupertino.A frail Jobs can be seeing introducing plans for the new Apple Campus, referring to it as a spaceship.That was June 2011. Steve Jobs died four months later on 5 October, 2011. Construction at the campus site began in November 2013, and over the past 3 years, several reports have described the pace of construction, by highlighting drone footage.As per the latest footage by Sexton Videography, the structure seems to be near completion. It shows the roof of the structure covered in solar panels. Landscaping work is remaining on the facility and is expected to open somewhere in 2017.As per the plan, Apple Campus 2 would have an area of 2.8 million square feet and would house 12,000 Apple employees. The campus is spread over 176 acres of land. In addition to the futuristic looking spaceship structure, the campus would have 7 cafes. The largest of these cafes would reportedly span across 3 floors and could house 3,000 people. In addition, a 1000-seat auditorium and a 1,00,000-square feet fitness centre is also part of the Apple Campus 2.The highlight of the campus is the green cover, which is supposed to be 80 percent, when the construction is complete. There would be approximately 8,000 trees on campus from among 309 indigenous varieties.
