AOL will be releasing a free Antivirus solution, powered by Kasperky Labs. The software will include technology to enable real-time scanning of files and email. It will also update its virus signature files every hour to increase its effectiveness in combating virii and trojans.Called Active Virus Shield, the product will be available for download shortly. After installation, the application will continuously monitor for threats. As part of its security features Active Virus Shield also includes an IE toolbar that provides real-time data on security status, a password manager and a pop-up blocker. It's good to see large companies taking steps like this. AOL subscribers often form the backbones of large ‘botnets' that are networks of compromised PCs used for spam purposes and DDOS attacks.
