Android 9.0 Pie update for Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 expected later this year

Xiaomi has released a list outlining its update schedule for Q1 2019, which highlights the phones that will be getting the Android 9.0 Pie update. The list includes phones like the Mi 6X, Redmi S3 and Redmi 6 Pro as well as the Redmi Note 5.The list was revealed on Xiaomi’s Chinese forums and indicates that internal testing for the aforementioned phones is planned for Q1 2019. One can thus expect the phones to get the update either in Q1 or Q2 this year.If Google translate is to be trusted — the post is in Chinese — Xiaomi appears to be saying that its phones will get upgraded at least twice and that subsequent upgrades depend on factors like release date, stability, software experience, etc. The company also mentions that exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.Once the internal testing is done, a beta program for the relevant phones will be launched.
