Android 4.4 KitKat headed to Moto X in a 'matter of weeks'

Google-owned Motorola has some good news for Moto X users. The company, which recently launched its budget Moto G, has also announced that the Moto X will soon be heading to the list of Android devices that are to get upgraded to Google latest OS flavour, Android 4.4 KitKat.

The company’s CEO, Dennis Woodside, at the Moto G launch, said that the Moto X will be receiving its KitKat update “in a matter of weeks.” If that does actually happen in the time frame mentioned, the handset will turn out to be the first non-Nexus handset to get upgraded to Google’s latest OS. Motorola’s presenters, however, were not concrete about the exact date for the roll out.

Android 4.4 on the way!

KitKat was initially launched on the Nexus 5 and recently started rolled out for the 2012 and 2013 edition of the Nexus 7 as well as the Nexus 10 tablet. Nexus 4 handsets are soon to get an upgrade too, according to Google. Motorola, as part of the official launch, also said that the Moto G would be getting the latest update in January next year. A quick look at the new OS reveals that it comes with a bunch of changes and new features. One of the biggest is the integration of SMS messaging into Hangouts, which Google hopes will become user’s default messaging app.

Apart from that, Google Now is more accessible than ever in KitKat. Much of the functionality can easily be accessed with the voice command “OK Google”. While the feature is currently supported only by the Nexus 5, other devices are expected to get the same as well. Important apps like the phone, music and movie applications have also been revamped.
