AMD unveils new 8900M GPUs with 12 to 54 percent better performance than Nvidia GTX 680M

AMD has unveiled its new laptop GPUs, dubbed the 8900M series. It uses an adaptation of its Graphics Core Next architecture to be used in gaming laptops.

AMD has unveiled its new laptop GPUs, dubbed the 8900M series. It uses an adaptation of its Graphics Core Next architecture to be used in gaming laptops. According to Engadget, compared to the previous 8800M, the new flagship laptop GPU – the 8970M – has double the stream processors, numbering at 1,280. The clock speed has also been boosted from 725 MHz to 850 MHz and the memory speed has been boosted to 1.2GHz.

Because of the enhancements, the new GPU gives around 12 to 54 percent faster performance than Nvidia’s current laptop GPU flagship, the GTX 680M. It also gives four times the computing capabilities in OpenCL. The new GPU is making its debut in MSI’s latest gaming laptop – the GX70 3BE. The laptop is meant to be a successor to the GX60. It has a 17.3-inch display. Despite the powerful internals, the laptop seems to look the same as the GX60. The processor in the laptop is an unnamed AMD A10 processor based on Richland. The laptop is equipped with a SteelSeries keyboard. Thanks to the powerful GPU, the laptop has support for AMD's Eyefinity multi-display technology.

Other features of the laptop include networking by Killer Gaming, Sound Blaster Cinema's sound technology and an audio boost design for better audio performance.

The GX70 is priced at an extremely competitive price of $1,100, which roughly translates to Rs 60,258.
