AMD Interlagos arrives, Zambezi gets the red signal

PC desktop enthusiasts worldwide will have to wait a while before the AMD Bulldozer processors for desktops, Zambezi, arrives. On the other hand, AMD has started shipping server processors on the new architecture in the form of Opteron chips. There were already some rumours of delays for the Zambezi processors and those seem to have come true, according to Extremetech. There’s no official announcement of when the desktop processors will be launched, but there’s a good chance, it’ll happen later this year and possibly even later than that, in 2012. The new processors, both server and desktop are based on AMD’s new architecture. 

Desktop users will have to wait a bit longer

The new Opteron processors being launched are 16-core models based on a 32nm fabrication process. AMD has also been launching budget, low-cost Fusion processors for the desktop. It also launched the new A4-3300 and the A4-3400 models, processors with integrated graphics processing capabilities. The new chips will be supported by the FM1 socket. There had already been some rumours about the performance of the Bulldozer chipsets, which might have caused reason for concern. AMD has been hoping to match the performance of Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors. With the server chips already out, it should only be a matter of time before the desktop processors release.
