Acer announces 6-inch Liquid S2 phablet with 4K recording

With a slew of phablets expected to be unveiled this month, here’s yet another addition. Acer has announced its Liquid S2 sporting a 6-inch display, which will be showcased at the IFA 2013. It's a successor to the 5.7-inch Liquid S1 launched earlier in June. The highlight of the device is its 4K recording capability. Looks like, 4K is an upcoming trend among manufacturers with the Xperia Z1 and Note 3 rumoured to support 4K recording too.

Under the hood, one will find the Snapdragon 800 chip clocked at 2.2GHz, with 2GB RAM. It is fuelled by a 3,300 mAh battery and comes with support for LTE. On the camera front, it is equipped with a 13 megapixel snapper with LED ring flash and 2 megapixel front-facing camera. Its front-facing camera can shoot 1080p videos. This Android-based smartphone will be made available with Jelly Bean 4.2.2 version and 16GB on-board storage. One can expect an array of connectivity options such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC and GLONASS.

The S2 gets additional camera features such as Quick First Shot that allow the camera to take a picture right from unlock the screen with automatic center-focus that can be adjusted by tapping any location on the screen. The Freehand Capture allows users to crop out anything on the screen using a finger or a digital pen. Then there’s Smart Best Shot to choose the best picture among multiple shots, and the Favorite mode that helps create five profiles with customised effects, flash, capture mode and scenes. The device will also support Acer's Float UI, HD Channel, Docs and Remote files.

The Acer Liquid S2 is likely to be launched only in Europe (at least for now) by the end of October. But there is no word on the exact launch date or pricing.
