It’s been a long time since a Halo game made its way to the PC. Halo Wars 2, an RTS-game based on the Halo Universe will soon land on PC. In preparation for that, Microsoft has announced an open beta for the game until 30 January. While it’s definitely not Halo 4, Halo Wars 2 is sure to get Halo fans and RTS fans alike excited. There hasn’t been a good RTS game since Starcraft 2 (Shush, Warhammer fans) and despite the attempts of several wannabes, nothing’s stuck.Microsoft Games, the makers of such awesome RTS titles like Age of Empires and, well, Age of Empires 2, is well-equipped to make a game in this genre. Throw in some Halo branding and we might be in for a real treat.
That said, the original Halo Wars was fun, but rather short and on the simpler side of the genre.Halo Wars 2 might correct that. If nothing else, I think it’s safe to say that we can expect visuals and fun on par with Red Alert 3 at the very least. The game will be free to play until 30 January exclusively on Windows 10. Included in the beta is a team-based blitz mode. This mode, interestingly enough, determines a player’s starting bases, units and powers in the form of cards dealt at random from a deck.Either way, I’m excited and I’m going to play the beta to death. How about you?
