Microsoft will double the Xbox Live subscription fee in India from March

If you’re a mere #ConsolePeasant, especially an Xbox one (Behold, a pun!), chances are that you’re paying a monthly fee for your multiplayer gaming needs. Microsoft has just made that experience that little bit dearer by announcing that the price of the Xbox Live Gold subscription will be doubled to Rs 699.Yes, you read that right. Your Xbox Live Gold subscription will now go from Rs 350 to Rs 699 per month starting 28 February 2017. Microsoft cites “the currency changes within India” as the cause of the price rise, reports MSPowerUser. The #PCMasterRace of course, doesn’t pay such fees.Xbox users need to pay that monthly fee if they wish to play games online with friends. There are benefits to the program, however. You do get some free games and exclusive discounts on newer titles.Gamers on Sony’s PlayStation console get a relatively better deal at Rs 333 per month. But who knows? Sony just might decide to up the price to match Microsoft’s fees.Microsoft already increased prices of Xbox Live subscriptions in six countries last year, notably in South Africa, where prices tripled.It seems like global Xbox Live subscription prices are simply being brought in line with US pricing, which certainly seems like a bad decision in developing countries like India.That said, it’s not like Xbox users have much of a say in the matter.
