Disney cancels in-house video game production of Infinity Series

Disney has just announced the cancellation of it's Infinity Series of video games. The series of titles was one of the most unique and ambitious approach to making interactive content around franchises.The player models in the game were based on various Disney properties. The Franchise included blockbusters such as Star Wars, Tron, Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean and Avengers. There are two modes for the gameplay. The Play Set mode allows gamers to follow the characters through story missions and environments from the franchise from which they were from. The Toy Box mode is more of an open world sandbox, where users can add interactive objects, and mashup the characters they have unlocked together in one gameplay scene, and proceed to play around.The announcement followed dismal performance of the Infinity platform over the past few months. Disney just put up second quarter and six months earnings financial report. There were not enough sales to justify continuation of the Infinity series, but that announcement of discontinuation comes at cost. Avalanche studio in Utah that developed the game series will be closed, and over 300 people are expected to lose their jobs.https://twitter.com/benfritz/status/730140066757103616There is still some content in the pipeline though, Alice Through the Looking Glass and Finding Dory Play Sets are expected to release in June. It is unclear what will happen to the availability of these games on various platforms.As of now, the games are available on all major console and mobile platforms. The game is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Wii, and Steam.  The game is also available on most mobile platforms, including App Store, Play Store, Amazon and Windows Store. Continued availability is uncertain, so get it while you can.
