Counter-Strike 1.6 is now running on Android, just not very well
Alibek Omarov has managed to get the original, Steam version of Valve's Counter-Strike 1.6 running on an Android tablet.
Alibek Omarov has managed to get the original, Steam version of Valve's Counter-Strike 1.6 running on an Android tablet. This is not a port or a remake of the game, Omarov got the full game, servers and bots included, running on the device, reports Kotaku. The process of setting the game up on an Android device is a bit complicated and, for the pirates out there, the method requires you to own a legitimate copy of the game on Steam. Instructions and required APK files can be found here. The controls for all the actions are overlaid on the screen itself. It might not be worth jumping through hoops to get the device working on Android, but as sheer bragging value, why not? As far as we can tell from the video, performance isn't very good as there's noticeable stuttering and lag. Also, managing that plethora of touch-screen controls looks like a painful job, not to mention the fact that accuracy seems to have taken a serious hit.Kudos to Omarov for getting the game to run as well as it did though. With the Source engine (an updated version of id's Quake engine) playing nice on Android, it shouldn't be long before we see some of our most beloved games running natively on the platform. Hopefully, at a better framerate.
