Alex Schultz becomes Meta's first Chief Data Officer in AI-focused leadership reshuffle
Meta appoints a Chief Data Officer as it doubles down on AI and data-driven decision-making.

Meta has named its Chief Marketing Officer, Alex Schultz, as the company's new Chief Data Officer, while Vice President of Consumer Marketing and Growth, Denise Moreno, has been elevated to the role of Chief Marketing Officer. The leadership changes reflect Meta's growing emphasis on analytics and data infrastructure as key pillars of its AI strategy.
By creating a dedicated Chief Data Officer role, Meta is bringing analytics directly into its executive leadership rather than treating it as a support function under another C-suite executive. Schultz will lead the company's efforts to transform how AI analytics are managed across the organization while continuing to oversee Meta's infrastructure analytics teams.
Schultz's responsibilities have also expanded beyond marketing to include the company's broader analytics operations. He will continue to oversee user research, competitive intelligence and reporting insights to Meta's board, underscoring the company's increasing reliance on data-driven decision-making.
Meanwhile, Moreno takes over as Chief Marketing Officer after leading Meta's in-product promotions for several years. She most recently played a key role in helping Threads surpass 500 million users. In her new role, she will focus on driving the growth and adoption of Meta's products and services.
Both Schultz and Moreno will report to Meta Chief Operating Officer Javier Olivan, with Moreno also joining CEO Mark Zuckerberg's leadership team.
Looking ahead, Schultz said Meta's immediate priority is strengthening the "context layer" of its AI systems—the organizational knowledge that enables AI models to reason more effectively. Over the next six months, the company plans to build a semantic layer across its data infrastructure to improve how it interprets and connects information across its products.
