Good news for job seekers: Online hiring activity up 11% in Jan

New Delhi: Online hiring activity grew by 11 percent in January this year, with the IT/Telecom sector emerging as the top employment generator during the month, says a report.According to a report by TimesJobs, this is the first time since 2012 that online hiring has increased for three months in a row.[caption id="attachment_1092095" align="alignleft" width="380"] Flickr/Creative Commons[/caption]"A new energised government, quick policy decisions and reforms are pushing up hiring across key sectors," said TimesJobs.com COO Vivek Madhukar, adding that e-commerce and startups continue to contribute significantly.Innovation and technology interventions are creating opportunities that are set to boost employment by creating new and unique roles and jobs in times ahead in order to sustain double-digit job growth, it said, adding that investments in IT and manufacturing sectors need to be stepped up.A sector-wise analysis shows that the IT/Telecom sector emerged as the top employment generator in January 2015 with a 19 percent rise in demand and on an average this sector has witnessed 9 percent rise in demand during November-January 2015 period.Other bullish sectors included logistics and warehousing, which reported 14 percent rise in hiring, followed by healthcare at 12 percent and automobile and consumer durables/FMCG at 11 percent.The report added that demand for senior professionals has witnessed a significant uptrend.Demand for candidates with less than 2 and 2-5 years of experience reported an eight percent rise, while the demand for candidates with over 20 years of experience witnessed a 14 percent jump.City-wise, Bengaluru registered an average growth of 19 percent in January 2015.Other metros too reported growth in hiring in January 2015 while among tier II locations Chandigarh tops the chart with 17 percent rise in demand, it added.PTI
