Goa: Governor Wanchoo quits soon after CBI questions him on AgustaWestland

Hours after being questioned as a witness by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team today in connection with the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper procurement scam, Goa Governor BV Wanchoo stepped down from office.Wanchoo is the fifth governor to resign from office after the BJP came to power.[caption id="attachment_1603459" align="alignleft" width="380"] Fpormer Goa Governor BV Wanchoo. The questioning of Wanchoo was on the lines of then national security advisor and former West Bengal governor MK Narayanan.Wanchoo, a former Indian Police Service officer, was the head of the elite Special Protection Group.According to the CBI, both he and Narayanan were part of meetings which led to the height ceiling of the VVIP choppers to be reduced, enabling AgustaWestland, an Italian chopper company, to enter the bidding picture.Wanchoo still had three years left to complete his term.But the BJP has been stepping up heat on him with several senior party leaders, including BJP state vice president Wilfred Mesquita, repeatedly asking him to resign "for his own good".With IANS input
