Dear Jayalalithaa, laugh with Cyrus instead of suing him

“Political satirist on television, Cyrus Broacha, is in trouble over his remarks on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa regarding her letter to the Prime Minister asking Manmohan Singh not to allow Sri Lankan players in the Indian Premier League (IPL),” The Hindu reports.“The State government has slapped a criminal defamation case against him and his team members, scriptwriter Ashish Shakya and show director Kunal Vijaykar. City Public Prosecutor ML Jegan filed the defamation case on behalf of Ms. Jayalalithaa,” the report adds. [caption id="attachment_702682" align="alignleft" width="380"] A screen grab from the YouTube video of show.[/caption]This is the show that Jayalalithaa is miffed about.It’s surprising that Jayalalithaa has been advised to sue the host and performer in what is patently and overtly a spoof/satire. This is how CNN IBN, the channel on which the show is hosted, describes Broacha’s show. “Liven up your weekends with pun-a-minute motormouth Cyrus Broacha. He will surely bust your brain with 100 per cent nonsense.”In the over 300 episodes of The Week That Wasn’t, the show has spared none, with the prime minister being a regular butt of jokes. The same episode that upsets Jayalalithaa features digs at Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Even Jayalalithaa’s opponents, Karunanidhi and his family, are at the receiving and of Broacha’s puns and 100 percent nonsense.On an average, at least five celebrities  the majority of whom are Indian politicians, are ‘victims’ of Broacha’s irreverent take. Up to now, they have chosen to see the lighter side of the program and have chosen to treat it in much the same manner as one sees a cartoon in a newspaper, and none has seen fit to take legal action.Ms Jayalalithaa, the show is a joke. Lighten up, and see it as one.If you can, try and laugh as you do.
