Congress 'Reddy' in Telangana: Revanth to take over as CM on December 7
Revanth Reddy joined Congress in 2017 and was appointed as the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief in 2021

Anumula Revanth Reddy, has been selected as the new chief minister of Telangana, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal announced on Tuesday."Honorable Congress President (Mallikarjun Kharge) has decided to go with Revanth Reddy, our PCC president, as the new CLP of Telangana Legislative Party," Venugopal said.The Congress leader further said Revanth Reddy is a dynamic leader who campaigned in Telangana Assembly elections 2023 extensively with other senior leader.The decision to name Reddy as new Telangana Chief Minister was taken at a meeting attended by Congress president Kharge, senior party leader Rahul Gandhi, party’s general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal, apart from leaders.The meeting was also attended by DK Shivakumar, who apparently conveyed to the central leadership that a majority of newly-elected legislators in the state preferred Revanth Reddy over others.According to reports, 42 of 64 Congress MLAs supported Revanth Reddy for the post of the next CM of Telangana.Who is Revanth Reddy, Telangana's new CM?Reddy was born on 8 November, 1969, in Kondareddypalli village of Nagarkurnool district.The 54-year-old politician joined the Congress party in 2017 and was appointed as the TPCC chief in 2021.He started his political career with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of RSS. In 2007, Reddy was elected as a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) as an independent candidate.Reddy is a Lok Sabha MP and a two-time MLA. In 2009, he had represented in the Assembly of undivided Andhra Pradesh and later in Telangana Assembly in 2014.He was also a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Kodangal constituency in 2009. However, he quit the party after his involvement in an alleged bribing scandal.Telangana Assembly elections 2023 resultIn the recently concluded Telangana Assembly polls, Congress defeated the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) by securing victory in 64 seats. The BRS trailed with 38 seats, while the BJP bagged eight seats.
