Chennai floods: PMK member alleges mismanagement in management efforts

New Delhi: PMK member Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday triggered strong protests in the Lok Sabha from AIADMK members when he alleged mismanagement in handling of the situation caused by the torrential rains in Chennai and parts of Tamil Nadu in which a few hundred people were killed.Raising the issue in the Zero Hour, he said the tragedy in Chennai was "partly natural, partly man-made" and some "glaring issues" came to fore including the activeness of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).Ramadoss wanted the Prime Minister to review the functioning of NDMA, while insisting that what was witnessed in Chennai was that there was "absolutely no coordination" between NDMA, army, state government and central government.[caption id="attachment_2531920" align="alignleft" width="380"] File image of the Chennai floods. Solaris Images[/caption]This was strongly protested by AIADMK members who immediately came to the aisle and Speaker Sumitra Mahajan assured them that she would see if there are any allegations made by the PMK member.AIADMK member P R Sundaram, who was given the opportunity to speak after Ramadoss, spoke of the excellent work done by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in tackling the situation on a war footing.He read out a statement of Jayalalithaa telling people that her life was to serve them and remove their sorrow and suffering. He sought Rs 8,481 crore aid to Tamil Nadu to address the issue of damaged houses. PTI
