Chhattisgarh governor resigns, Cong accuses BJP of violating SC verdict

Chhattisgarh governor Shekhar Dutt resigned on early Thursday morning. He has sent his resignation to the President. Dutt had been the Deputy National Security Advisor of India from 2007 to 2009. He belongs to the 1969 batch of Indian Administrative Services (IAS) from the Madhya Pradesh cadre.The NDA government has been urging the governors of UP, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, and MP to quit on Tuesday. Officials from the government had also said that all governors from the Congress would be urged to resign or would be transferred if they refused to resign. According to reports, there are 19 governors from Congress.The Congress is accusing the BJP of violating the Supreme Court's 2010 judgement which stated that governors cannot be removed without 'compelling' reasons.Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi and Karnataka governor HR Bhardwaj had resigned on Wednesday.[caption id="attachment_1578115" align="alignleft" width="380"]

PIB[/caption]Among the reactions to this move taken by the NDA government, Maharashtra govenor K Sankaranarayanan had said that while there was no questioning the fact that no position in democracy is permanent, he objected to the NDA government's approach to the issue.Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit, meanwhile, declined to comment on the resignations on Wednesday. "I can't react to rumours", Dikshit said when asked by media persons.Reports suggested earlier that the BJP is determined to use the ongoing CBI probe into the Agusta Westland VVIP helicopter deal to force out Governor BV Wanchoo in Goa and MK Narayanan in West Bengal.With inputs from PTI
