Viral video: Ad Council's PSA is a tribute to humanity, shows love has no labels

We often make snappy judgments based on people's appearances — their colour, race, disability and other factors — and these judgements often have great affect on our behaviour towards them. While there are times when these judgments may be formed on the basis of implicit bias, it is our responsibility to rethink our prejudices.[caption id="attachment_2137615" align="alignleft" width="380"] Courtesy: Youtube[/caption]A new public service advertisement made by Ad Council reminds us just that. Released last month on Valentine's Day the PSA recently went viral. It is a three minute video, which shows people through x-ray machines, just as skeletons projected on the screen. From homosexual couples to differntly-abled kids to friends following different faith hug, kiss and dance with one another behind the x-ray screen. It is only when they come in front of the screen do you realise what race, age or sexual orientation they have.Here is the video:This video is a part of Ad Council's year long campaign which aims at ending bias and prejudice. The website of 'love has not labels' have stories from people, who have been judged based on their religion, sex, disability among others. These prejudices that we often have ingrained in ourselves is also not always easy to spot, so the website offers ways to find out how biased you are and how to deal with it.The Youtube description of the 'Love Has No Labels' video read as, "While the vast majority of Americans consider themselves unprejudiced, many of us unintentionally make snap judgments about people based on what we see—whether it’s race, age, gender, religion, sexuality, or disability. This may be a significant reason many people in the US report they feel discriminated against."
