Modi sarkar's use of Facebook, Twitter illegal, says Govindacharya

PM Modi might have been stressing on the need for a social account for all his mantris but not everyone is impressed with this emphasis on going digital.According to former BJP leader KN Govindacharya, Modi sarkar's usage of Facebook and Twitter accounts is illegal.A Times of India report says that the former BJP leader has already filed a PIL in the Delhi high court and stated that the Modi government was in violation of "the Public Records Act by relying on social media websites that have foreign servers."The report adds that "a bench of Justices B D Ahmed and Siddharth Mridul had last week directed the former Sangh ideologue to file an affidavit detailing his allegations and said it will hear the issue."[caption id="attachment_1618397" align="alignleft" width="380"]

AFP[/caption]Interestingly Govindacharya's lawyer Virag Gupta told the paper that even private emails were in violation of the act as the servers of these services were outside of India. The government however has told the court that it will have "a national email policy for official communications," adds the report.This is not the first time that Govindacharya has sought some action against the use of social media.He had previously filed a petition in the Delhi HC stating that minors were allowed to open an account with social networking sites, including Facebook, which was illegal as Indian laws don’t permit it.The court had issued a notice in regard to that PIL stating that children under 13 should not be allowed to open social media accounts. His petition had also sought to get income taxes from Facebook and Google. The petition also sought a direction to ensure safety of the data of 50 million Indian users, which was transferred “to the US and is being used for commercial gains in violation of the right to privacy.”
