Kolkata eatery denied Suzette Jordan entry for being 'Park Street rape victim'

Speaking to a news channel, the restaurant admitted denying entry to Suzette Jordan but for a different reason.

She prefers being called by her name and does not like being referred to as the 'Park Street rape vicitm." In February 2012, after Suzette Jordan was gang-raped in Kolkata's Park Street, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had termed the incident as a sajana ghatana or "cooked-up incident." Two years later, the tag has not left her.A report in the Deccan Chronicle on Monday said, a restaurant in Hazra in Kolkata refused to let Jordan enter for being a rape victim. Jordan was with her fiance and was told by a junior staff, "You cannot enter." "I felt raped again," she told Iyer.The manager of Ginger hotel in Kolkata's Hazra denied her entry citing the reason not once but thrice and in front of the entire restaurant, according to the report. According to Jordan not a single person championed her cause because they were all busy eating. After the public humiliation, when Jordan called her journalist friend from a Bengali news channel, the manager abused her too, the report added.Speaking to a news channel, the restaurant admitted denying entry to Suzette Jordan but for a different reason.Restaurant manager Dipten Banerjee said, "She’s a regular customer who had earlier come with different men and created ruckus in a drunken state. I have video footage to prove it. Hence, I restricted her entry,” the manager said, according to reports by The Hindu.The staff added that they were afraid she would "create a commotion inside the restaurant".Suzette Jordan registered a police complaint with the Kalighat police station on Monday.
