According to records shared by the District Industries Centre, Aligarh is home to approximately 5,000 registered lock-manufacturing units.

Reports have also noted that the city accounts for nearly 75 per cent of India's lock production, making it one of the most significant manufacturing centres in the country.

From padlocks, deadbolts and combination locks to cam locks, rim locks, and smart locks, Aligarh's lock industry has started blending heritage with innovation.

A lock museum in the making

As per the latest government reports, India's first lock museum is set to be established in Aligarh. Reports suggest the government has approved the project with an estimated cost of Rs 37 crores.

With an aim to provide a platform for global buyers and entrepreneurs, the museum will showcase traditional, modern and specialised locks. The project is believed to boost the local lock and hardware industry.
