Sensex, Nifty end in green, rupee hits life time low

The Sensex managed to close at 16,066, up 60 points from its days low and off 174 points from the day's high. Nifty closed below the 4,900 level.

It was another volatile session for the markets. The Sensex managed to close at 16,066, up 60 points from its days low and off 174 points from the day's high. Nifty closed below the 4,900 level. Markets revered most of their gains made during the opening session after European markets fell on pressure about concerns related to Greece.

The rupee also hit an all time record low of 54.5650, breaching its previous all-time low of 54.52 hit as per Reuters.

7 of the 13 sectoral indices ended in red led by a steep fall in capital goods, consumer durables and autos. FMCG, realty and metals were the top gainers.

Among the 30-share Sensex pack, 15 stock ended in red. ITC was the top gainer (3%) followed by Jindal Steel (2.3 percent) and DLF. Losers included the likes of M&M, L&T, Bajaj Auto.

Among "A" group stocks, Astrazeneca Pharma was the top gainer with a jump of 20 percent. Dish TV, Oberoi Realty, Ambuja Cement, Alstom T&D gained more than 4 percent.

Investors will be keeping a close watch on results of SBI, Tata Steel and Coal India tomorrow. The stock closed up 1.7 percent today.

Bajaj Auto fell by 3 percent after it reported a sharp 45 percent fall in net profits.

L&T fell by 3.64 percent after it was downgraded by Nomura. Nomura down graded the stock's target price to Rs 992 from Rs 1,691. The report added that L&T's management guidance for 15-20 percent order intake for the financial year ended March 2013 is an ""extremely challenging task".

Essar Shipping jumped 6.8 percent after the company reported a net profit of Rs 55 crore vs loss of Rs 67 lakhs year-on-year.

Pantaloon Retail fell 6 percent, extending yesterday's fall triggered by the fact that the company reported a loss in the March quarter.

Stocks which hit a one year low today were :

BHEL hits 52-week low at Rs 205.9 per share.

Praj Inds hit a 52-week low to Rs 53.55 per share.

Sintex hits 52-week low to Rs 52.5 per share on the NSE

Hindalco hits a 52 week low to Rs 109.3 per share.

TVS Motors hit a 52-week low to Rs 33.4 per share.

Divi's Lab hits 52-week high to Rs 910.9 per share on the NSE.

Petronet LNG hits a 52-week low to Rs 125.32 per share.

The sharp fall in the markets have led to many scrips hitting their one year lows. Yesterday, almost almost 270 scrips hitting their one-year lows on the BSE as per data compiled by Ace Equity. While many stocks were able to recover from the low and close above, quite a few closed below those levels.
