Two policemen hurt as militants open fire during Eid-e-Milad procession in Anantnag

Srinagar: Militants on Thursday fired at a police team during a procession in connection with Eid-e-Milad festival in Anantnag, about 50 kms from here, injuring an officer and a constable.The incident took place in Gooriwan where the police team was on routine law and order duty for the procession marking the birthday of Prophet Mohammad, police said.Sub Divisional Police Officer of Bijebehara Irshad Ahmad and a constable were injured in the firing, they said, adding both were shifted to a hospital.[caption id="attachment_2558688" align="alignleft" width="380"]Representational Image. Later, a person introducing himself as spokesman for Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit called up media houses to claim responsibility for the attack on the police party.The caller, introducing himself as Burhanuddin, said the attack was carried out by the activists of the outfit and warned that such attacks will continue.PTI
