Truck driver mows down five sleeping labourers in Chandigarh after being rebuked for public urination

Chandigarh is no stranger to speeding cars and drunk driving. But on Monday night things took a horrific turn when a drunk truck driver ran over eight labourers who were sleeping on a pavement, leaving five of them dead and the remaining three injured.[caption id="attachment_2217284" align="alignleft" width="380"] Reuters[/caption]According to The Tribune, the truck driver has been identified as Sarma Chaudhary, who is a migrant from Bihar. The driver fled the scene of the accident without the truck.The story then takes a weird twist. It seems the driver ran over the labourers on purpose. TV news reports suggest that the truck driver was told off for urinating at the same spot earlier in the evening following which they objected and a violent fight broke out.The Tribune reports that, "the heads of four labourers were crushed under the wheels of the truck. They died on the spot while the four other injured were rushed to the hospital where one of them succumbed to his injuries."A co-worker who worked with the victims told Times of India that, the truck driver after being rebuked for urinating was incensed and wanted to teach them a lesson.He allegedly sped into the parking area running over the men were sleeping there. He tried to escape with the vehicle but the truck stalled after hitting an iron dustbin.
