Telangana Congress leaders to push for increase in assembly seats

Congress leaders from the Telangana region plan to reach Delhi tomorrow and urge the Group of Ministers (GoM), set up to take a decision on bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, to increase the number of assembly seats in the new state from 119 seats to 153 seats.

Hyderabad: Congress leaders from the Telangana region plan to reach Delhi tomorrow and urge the Group of Ministers (GoM), set up to take a decision on bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, to increase the number of assembly seats in the new state from 119 seats to 153 seats.

The present Andhra Pradesh assembly has 294 seats. "We will urge the GoM to recommend to the Union Cabinet to increase the number of assembly seats to 153, since the number of assembly seats in the new state could be incorporated in the Telangana Bill.

"We plan to reach Delhi by tomorrow evening," senior Congress MLA representing Sanathnagar assembly constituency in Hyderabad and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Vice-Chairman M Sasidhar Reddy told reporters here today.

Congress leaders from Telengana region said that increasing the number of assembly seats would lead to better political stability.
