Stray cows on the loose leave university with a hefty Rs 2 lakh bill

Cows have always been considered sacred in India and are given a wide leash when it comes to restrictions.[caption id="attachment_2181059" align="alignleft" width="380"] Representational image. AFP[/caption]They roam the roads freely, they're safe from death or being eaten on our plates but now they're turning into a menace at a university in West Bengal.According to a report in The Telegraph, bovines roaming freely about the university campus have caused so much damage that students have had to write complaints to higher authorities seeking people to drive the cows away from the campus.So far the animals have destroyed trees worth Rs 2 lakh.More than 200 cows stray into the Santiniketan and Sriniketan campuses every day from the neighbouring villages.  Adding to their woes, the report goes on to state that the newly-planted Mahogany, Sonajhuri and Eucalyptus saplings worth Rs 2 lakh on the campus were also destroyed by them.But for now, they have solved their stray cow problem by employing four people who will be solely responsible for driving the cows away.
