SC asks law panel to examine if hate speeches can be prohibited

The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the law commission to examine the question whether there could be a legal framework to prohibit hate speeches by politicians.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the law commission to examine the question whether there could be a legal framework to prohibit hate speeches by politicians and others during elections.The apex court bench headed by Justice BS Chauhan also asked the law commission to lay down the definition of hate speech. Pronouncing the judgment, Justice Chauhan asked the election commission to take suo moto cognizance of any hate speech by any leader during electioneering.[caption id="attachment_1427129" align="alignleft" width="380"]
