Road rage in Mumbai: Auto driver beaten up, NRI attacked

Where is Mumbai heading to? In 24 hours, two incidents of road rage were reported in the city, leaving us wondering why the city has become so intolerant.A BEST employee along with three other drivers allegedly thrashed an autorickshaw driver in Goregaon for refusing to give way, while a pedestrian was hit with a baseball bat after he tried to halt a brawl between two motorists in the city's Bandra-Kurla Complex.[caption id="attachment_336852" align="alignleft" width="380" caption="Where is Mumbai heading to? Reuters"][/caption]A US-based businessman Sanjay Jaiswal was attacked when a motorist, Indrajit Sawant, allegedly hit him on the head with a baseball bat in Santacruz (E) on Wednesday morning.Seeing an inebriated Sawant beating up another car driver, Hrishi Gandhi, after running into his vehicle from the rear, Jaiswal tried to intervene. He tried to stop Sawant from assaulting the other motorist. Sawant hit him with a baseball bat when he intervened. Jaiswal is now battling for life in Nanavati Hospital.Sawant has been arrested and booked for attempted murder.Later in the noon, Dheeraj Singh, an auto driver from Kandivali, paid a heavy price for snubbing a BEST driver. Singh was beaten up by an off-duty BEST bus driver, Virendra Chouhan, and three of Chouhan's accomplices in Goregaon when his vehicle came in the way of a BEST bus on Link road near Abhudaya Bank in Shashtri Nagar.The auto driver was dragged to the Goregaon bus depot and was left there in a semi-conscious state. Chouhan surrendered to the police on Wednesday night; Singh suffered eye wounds and fractures on the leg.
