Rape charges: Army orders court of inquiry Colonel

New Delhi: The Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry (CoI) against a Colonel, who has been accused ofallegedly raping an Indian-origin doctor in New York during his posting there in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations.The officer is presently posted in Army's College of Combat in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh and was Military Attache at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York.[caption id="attachment_1653265" align="alignleft" width="380"] Representational image. AP[/caption]A CoI under a Brigadier has been ordered and if the charges against the officer are found to be true, appropriate action would be taken against him, Army sources said.The woman has complained that the officer allegedly raped her inside the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York, they said.The lady doctor has claimed that she has saved evidence like love text messages, love letters and emails to her from the officer, they said.She has alleged that the officer stopped keeping in touch with her after he left the US and returned to India, they said.She is also claiming that complaints sent by her to the Indian Prime Minister, Defence Minister, Army Chief and the regiment of the officer did not result in any action by the government against the officer, they said.Army sources said the alleged incidents took place in New York almost two years ago and the allegations were levelled by the woman four months ago.PTI
