Panicky Chennai chokes streets following tsunami warning

Schools were immediately closed with some announcing an extended holiday till Sunday.

The tsunami warning following the earthquake three hours ago has triggered a massive traffic jam in Chennai with panicky office goers rushing home. On Anna Salai and Santhom High Road the roads are completely choked.[caption id="attachment_272780" align="alignleft" width="380" caption="Marina beach in Chennai. Reuters"][/caption] Schools were immediately closed with some announcing an extended holiday till Sunday. The tsunami warning has sent a chill down the spine of the residents of north Chennai. Evacuation is on at the Marina and Besant Nagar beaches. The movie theatres were also evacuated.
