Mumbai's first showers halts train services, commuters block tracks in protest

A day after Western suburban railway services came to a grinding halt, Mumbai's Central and Harbour line were badly hit on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging on tracks with numerous commuters stranded at various stations.The Central Railways tweeted that waterlogging was reported at Mankhurd, Vidyavihar, Thane, Vikhroli, Bhandup and trains were running 30 minutes late.[caption id="attachment_2846842" align="alignleft" width="825"]

Commuters stranded at the Dombivli railway station on Tuesday.[/caption]Protesting against the Central Railway, angry passengers at Diva railway station in Thane blocked the train tracks, however, the Thane police reached the spot and situation is reported to be under control.

On Monday, Mumbai local commuters were left stranded on the Western Line from around 11.15 am as a major power failure stopped all trains. The glitch occurred due to the theft of 18 electric batteries of 12 AH capacity from the Mahim electrical sub-station at Mahim.That's not all. Taxi drivers have gone on strike in protest against the fares charged by cab aggregators. Government officials are expected to meet on Tuesday to come up with a viable solution.
