Mamata promises impartial probe into Presidency University vandalism

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday assured Sugato Bose, chief of Presidency University mentor group, of an impartial probe into the 10 April vandalism in the prestigious institute and that there would be no political interference."We had demanded an impartial investigation into the unfortunate incident. AFP[/caption]Presidency University was wracked by violence when miscreants carrying TMC flags ransacked the historic Baker Laboratory and vandalised other departments.Bose, who met the Chief minister at Writers Buildings, said she had told him that so far 150 new faculty were appointed at the university and there was no political interference.State Governor MK Narayanan, also the chancellor of the university, had apologised for the incident and said it should never have happened."It is unprecedented and should never have happened. It is a blot on our hopes for the future and our ambitions to make this a centre of excellence," Narayanan, who had visited the university two days after the vandalism, had said.PTI
