Kotak Mahindra Bank CEO Ashok Vaswani to step down at end of term
The bank said the succession process is underway and will be completed within the applicable regulatory timelines.

Kotak Mahindra Bank on Saturday informed stock exchanges that its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ashok Vaswani, will not seek re-appointment after his current term ends on December 31, 2026, citing personal reasons.
The announcement has prompted India's fourth-largest private sector lender to begin the process of identifying his successor.
Vaswani, who took charge as MD and CEO on January 1, 2024, will continue to lead the bank until the end of his tenure.
Search for successor begins
In an internal letter to employees, seen by Reuters, Vaswani said he would work closely with the chairman and the board over the next six months, describing the period ahead as "some of the most important months in Kotak's journey."
The leadership transition comes as the bank seeks to accelerate growth after emerging from a period of regulatory scrutiny. Earlier this month, Vaswani told Reuters that Kotak Mahindra Bank aims to become India's third-largest private sector lender by after-tax profit.
Analysts see short-term uncertainty
Market experts said the announcement could weigh on investor sentiment in the near term.
"Vaswani served for just one term and hopefully a credible long-term replacement, either internally or externally, should ease the concerns and then the stock should track its fundamentals," Anand Dama, Executive Director at Nuvama Institutional Equities, told Reuters.
Kotak Mahindra Bank reported a 13 percent rise in net profit to Rs 40.27 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025-26, driven by stronger lending growth and lower provisions. The bank's shares closed at Rs 409 on Thursday.
Vaswani's banking career
Vaswani succeeded Uday Kotak as Managing Director and CEO on January 1, 2024.
Before joining Kotak Mahindra Bank, he spent more than three-and-a-half decades in global banking. He held senior leadership roles at Citigroup, including CEO for Asia Pacific and membership of the company's Global Operating and Management Committees. He also served at Barclays as CEO of its Global Consumer, Private, Corporate and Payments business and was a member of the bank's Group Executive Committee.
