Enraged over his wife's alleged extra-marital affair, a man Tuesday threw acid at her, injuring her and two others in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, police said.

Along with his wife, two other women including a nurse sustained serious burn injuries," said police."Prime facie it appears Mandal attacked his wife suspecting she is having an extra-marital affair," added police.Despite a ban on sale of acids, the state has witnessed several incidents of vitriolage in the recent past.According to Acid Survivors Foundation India (ASFI), a non-government organisation, 83 acid attacks were reported in the state between 2006 and 2013 resulting in injuries to at least 121 people, most of them women.IANS
