Kauravas were test-tube babies born through stem cell research, says Andhra University Vice-Chancellor

Jalandhar: In an absurd statement, the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University said that the Kauravas of the Mahabharata were born through stem cell research and test-tube technology.Speaking at the Indian Science Congress on Friday at Jalandhar in Punjab, Professor G Nageswara Rao said the ancient Indian science that resulted in the birth of the Kauravas was akin to the modern technology of stem cell research and test-tube birth."Everybody wonders how and nobody believes that Gandhari gave birth to 100 children (the Kauravas). People ask how it is humanly possible for a lady to give birth to 100 children in her lifetime. People have always believed that the Kauravas were fictitious characters," Rao said."But now we can believe it because we have test tube babies. And again, the Mahabharata says the same thing. Hundred eggs are put into 100 earthen pots. It is like a test tube baby, stem cell research," he added."Stem cell research was done in this country thousands of years ago. Even today many people don't understand what stem cell is, but thousands of years ago we had this technology. Because of this technology, 100 Kauravas were born to one mother few thousand years ago," the Vice-Chancellor added.The theme of the 106th Indian Science Congress is "Future India: Science and Technology". The meet provides a platform to researchers, academics and industry champions to share their findings with scholars and also to instigate budding science and technology enthusiasts to do meaningful research for the industries and a sustainable socio-economic system.
