K Radhakrishnan's tenure at ISRO chief ends, Shailesh Nayak takes over

Radhakrishnan led ISRO through many milestones in the last five years being at the helm of affairs

Bengaluru: Dr Shailesh Nayak, Secretary Earth Sciences, has been given the additional charge of Secretary, Department of Space, following the superannuation of K Radhakrishnan today, sources at ISRO said."Dr Shailesh Nayak, Secretary Earth Sciences is given additional charge of Secretary DOS (Department of Space)," a top ranking ISRO official told PTI.This appointment comes in the wake of superannuation of Radhakrishnan who led ISRO through many milestones in the last five years being at the helm of affairs.[caption id="attachment_2025837" align="alignleft" width="380"]Radhakrishnan was at the helm of ISRO during the Mars Mission. image courtesy: ISRO Radhakrishnan was at the helm of ISRO during the Mars Mission. image courtesy: ISRO[/caption]The tenure of Radhakrishnan as ISRO chief, Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, Space Commission was extended by four months in August this year till 31 December, 2014 on "functional grounds and in public interest.61-year-old Nayak has served ISRO for 29 years (1977-2006) in his earlier stint.He has also served at Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services from May 2006 to August 2008. Shailesh Nayak assumed charge as Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences on August 27, 2008.PTI
